Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of content should be included on this Wiki?

There are no real restrictions on what you can include on the Wiki, just make sure to keep things appropriate, and only make edits where you can improve existing pages. Refer to your team lead's specific advice on what to include on your team's Wiki. In general, we aim for this space to be a central hub of information for project teams to use as they best see fit.

How do I add content to the Wiki?

Take a look at the Wiki Guides page to get a feel for how to add pages, embed resources, etc. We'd also recommend looking around at other developed pages to get a feel for what kind of content is possible and how it can be made.

What can be included on the Wiki other than plain text?

  • Markup text editing
  • $\LaTeX$ math using $
  • Links to web resources outside the wiki
  • Direct PDF document embeds
  • Direct YouTube video embeds
  • Direct media file embeds
  • File embeds (with 100+ GB of wiki storage)
  • Informational note boxes

When should I use the Wiki over Google Drive?

In general, the Wiki should be the primary source for documentation. Include guides, papers, meeting minutes, and other similar documents on here, and try to make it the “information hub” that connects all of your team's resources. Use Google Drive, however, when live editing of documents is important or when complex documents (spreadsheets, presentations, etc) need to be made. In general, use the Wiki for finished “products”, and consider adding resources to it at important checkpoints like design reviews.

As an example, Liquids' space on the wiki is set up to be a “one stop shop” for new members. It aims to include all the documents needed to access team resources – whether that be Slack, Google Drive, or the PDM server, but also includes important documentation for old and current projects in one easy to access location.

Who should I go to if I have questions or requests about the Wiki?

Contact Andrew LaPrade or William Ipsen if you have any problems or feature requests for the Wiki. Make sure you've read all the available resources if you're having problems with standard tasks!

Can resources be locked based on user permissions?

Yes! This is feasible within the DokuWiki framework. Users can be granted certain roles and can only access certain resources based on those roles. Talk to Andrew LaPrade or whoever is the current server administrator to get this implemented.

What information is considered public?

Most pages on the Wiki should contain a tag at the top of the page that indicates the classification on sharing information. The table below describes each classification and which groups are allowed to view this information. Classifying information is done due to competition, protecting sensitive information (like passwords), strategic release, and Purdue and/or government regulation.

Currently, all pages in this Wiki are accessible via a valid login credential, but depending on its classification, you may or may not share information or media on a page.

Access Scope Visibility
Open Access Covers technology and information that is available to the general public. Includes complete projects and documentation. The general public, including other university teams.
Limited Access Covers technology that was developed explicitly for teams on Purdue Space Program. Typically, this covers projects that are in progress and are not ready for Open Access. Additionally, this contains information that will be used strategically for external relations (such as photos) that is not ready for Open Access until a certain date. Purdue University students, faculty, and staff.
Restricted Access Covers technology that was developed explicitly for use at Maurice J. Zucrow Labs or other restricted Purdue facilities. This also covers sensitive information on PSP, such as account passwords. Zucrow Faculty and Staff and PSP only. If account passwords, members on the relevant PSP team only.
ITAR Access Covers technology that is considered by the United States Government to be defense related article and services and is therefore regulated for import and export. You should not see this tag anywhere on the Wiki as PSP is a non-ITAR compliant organization. When in doubt, assume that experiments at Maurice J. Zucrow Labs are ITAR restricted.
